PERSONNEL EXPOSURE

 
We monitor individuals’ exposure to the following chemical hazards:

  • Waste anesthetic gases in ORs
  • Ethylene oxide in sterilizers and autoclaves
  • Nitrogen in tissue storage banks
  • Formaldehyde / glutaraldehyde in pathology/tissue preservation
  • Oncology chemicals in pharmacies and labs
  • Xylene and other solvents in histology labs
  • Asbestos
  • Custodial and maintenance staff – sanitation chemicals

EQUIPMENT SAFETY

 
We check equipment to ensure it’s not endangering staff:

  • Anesthetic gas scavenging systems leak detection and operating effectiveness
  • Nitrous oxide anesthetic gas supply systems leak detection
  • Lab hood airflow measurement
  • Chemical Hygiene Plan development

INDOOR AIR QUALITY

 
We test the air and surfaces for mold, bacteria and chemicals:

  • Waste anesthetic gases in ORs
  • Ethylene oxide in sterilizers and autoclaves
  • Bacteria and mold (species-specific analysis)
  • Legionella
  • Carbon monoxide
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Construction projects: asbestos, noise, dust, chemicals, roofing tars, silica, volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
