Northeast Megalopolis Indoor Air Quality

The Northeast Corridor—The U.S. Megalopolis—is by far the Most Populated Region of the United States.  It is also a center of Environmental and Health Problems.  Not the least of which is Indoor Air Quality in our homes, offices, public buildings, and factories.  40-50 Million people living in close proximity is a recipe for health problems particularly in the buildings where we live, work and play.

Roughly 20% of the population of the United States live and work in Maryland (MD), Delaware (DE), New York (NY), New Jersey (NJ), Washington D.C., Virginia (VA), Pennsylvania (PA), Connecticut (CT), Rhode Island (RI), Massachusetts (MA), New Hampshire (NH) and Maine (ME).

This concentration of population and the buildings they inhabit make us vulnerable to adverse effects of where we live and work. This includes mold, bacteria, viruses, chemicals, air and water pollution, noise, communicable disease, sanitation.

Citizens of the Megalopolis spend most of their time indoors. Thus problems of Environmental Quality indoors affect more and more people. Asthma and other respiratory disease are on the rise.  Some of it is mold, some the ever-increasing use of chemicals in our daily lives, some the close proximity of our workspaces to each other, and some due to a catastrophe (fire, flood, chemical release, adverse weather) affects more and more people.   By and large, we are able to keep up with our rapidly changing lifestyle/work style.  Generally, we also have the ability to react faster with more knowledge, expertise, and resources to deal with a problem.  This certainly includes the Quality of Air we breathe and the many other elements of our indoor environment that affect us every minute of every day.

Our hope is that since we are in the middle of this Megalopolis, (Atlantic Environmental’s headquarters is located in northern NJ), we can do our part to control and minimize what may adversely affect our health.
